Turangi is mostly famous for the river that runs through it: the Tongariro River. This river provides some excellent trout fishing all year round but particularly during August - October for Rainbow steelhead and Brown trout.Turangi is also convenient as a base for exploring the Volcanic Plateau or partaking in outdoor pursuits such as hunting, walking, climbing and skiing in season.
